Morningstar award nomination 2023
Recognising excellence on a large playing field – GTC’s Capital Plus Fund of Funds shines
Late in February 2023, at an industry award ceremony hosted by Morningstar, a global well respected independent investment research company, announced the nomination of GTC’s Capital Plus Fund of Fund in their ‘Best Moderate Fund Allocation’ category.
Morningstar provides data and research insights on a wide range of investment offerings, including managed investment products, publicly listed companies, private capital markets, debt securities, and real time global market data.
An award nomination would recognise funds and asset managers that have served their investors well, by delivering strong risk-adjusted performance for investors in 2022, reports Mr. Tal Nieburg, Managing Director of Morningstar South Africa.
The Morningstar manager research team use a qualitative overlay against the Morningstar’s quantitative methodology to determine finalists, each of whom should be “Commended on their commitment to investors”, says Mr. Nieburg.
Morningstar’s measurement methodology is based upon data to 31 December 2022, and emphasises the one-year performance period. Strong risk-adjusted returns over three and five years must have been posted within the peer group to obtain a nomination.
Alongside the two other funds, Amplify SCI Absolute and Nedgroup Investments Balanced, GTC’s Capital Plus Fund of Funds was recognised for its outstanding performance based on ‘moderate fund allocation’.
The GTC Capital Plus Fund of Funds mandate is to ensure capital preservation through steady growth and maximum stability for the capital invested. It has a moderate risk profile with a target of CPI+3% over a rolling five year period.
There are a total of 173 participating fund managers and/or portfolios within this category. Receiving a nomination in this category is prestigious and elevates GTC in the public investment arena.
We acknowledge the insights and guidance of the GTC Asset Management team, along with the GTC investment and risk management committees.
GTC Asset Management ascribes its ongoing outstanding performance to vigorous investment processes, whilst upholding investor confidence and direction.
The award nomination was followed by an invitation to a prestigious black-tie awards ceremony which took place at the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town, at which time the winners of the nine different categories were announced.
Whilst GTC did not receive the top performers accolades at this event, we are immensely proud of the nomination and our investment team for their continued performance and industry recognition.
